TLDR I am looking for an e-ink device that is good for reading ebooks and comics as well as note making, especially annotating PDFs. I loved my old Kindle for the e-paper experience and I was very happy learning about e-ink tablets - and I really want to try one!

Why not just get a tablet for note taking - my eyes are sensitive and I already work in front of a screen.

Established ways of online syncing to some cloud drive is a plus but I am open to software tinkering to get the job done or good old cable connection. My uses of the device in order of importance would be reading ebooks, note taking, annotating PDFs, reading comics and some but little drawing. I would like the supplier not to have a shady importer or repair practices. My budget is around £400 (~$530) and I am based in UK. Unfortunately I am running out of time to make the decision which device to buy and hence I am hoping to get some insight from the community about what would work (or what wouldn’t) for my needs. There are sites dedicated to e-ink devices but they usually cover only part of the market that they are also conveniently selling on their website. Over the last few days of researching e-ink devices I’ve come to the conclusion that this market is much less niche than I expected and also much less concentrated. First off, I realise the title is very broad - let me specify.
